Week Two: Creating a Life of Meaning
This week I got to create a Life Bucket List! I was so excited to think of all of the things that I would like to accomplish. We were able to choose 50 things to do before we die. The majority of my items were family-oriented. But my number one thing is to be physically healthy. Because, when I am physically fit, then I can continue to achieve my other goals because I will have more energy.
Why do you think Randy Pausch was able to achieve so many of his childhood dreams?
I think Mr. Pausch was able to achieve so many of his dreams because he put forth the effort to make them happen. He realized that sometimes barriers are set so that we can work harder to achieve our goals. He was also persistent and, in some cases, insistent that he participate in certain things. I think if we get turned down, it’s easy to give up on a dream instead of continually pursuing it.
Do you feel that dreaming is important? Why or why not?
I do feel that dreaming is important. I remember having loads of dreams to imagine and have fun daydreaming. I do not think that dreaming is a bad thing unless those dreams cause someone to harm another person. I believe dreams can teach us about reality. It’s easy to get lost in a dream and not want to come back to reality. Discuss at least one of your childhood dreams. Explain why you believe you can or cannot achieve this dream.

When I was a child, I never had a “dream job.” All of my friends dreamed about being the typical things: Doctor, Lawyer, Veterinarian, etc., but I only had one thing that I wanted to do. I wanted to grow up, get married, and have children. I wanted to be a mom, and I have achieved that dream. I got married almost twelve years ago and have four beautiful children. It turns out that playing house all those years ago was just fun! But being a mom now is a lot more work than swaddling a baby doll and moving on to play with another toy.
